What will the new year hold for the world?
What will it hold for "people of the Book", the "children of God", the "disciples of Jesus Christ"?
I have no idea!
But this I know. With each passing year, we're closer to the return of Jesus Christ, and I want to be able to give a "good steward's" account to my Lord and Master when I see Him face to face. I want no regrets, and no embarrassments about how I acted, or reacted, or spent the resources (whether time or finances) that He has supplied for me to manage. I want Him to be pleased and honored and glorified, and that begins today (whether it's one of the final days in 2020, or one of the new days to come in 2021)!
When the year rolls over, I will still be "in Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:17), and that means old things have STILL passed away, including 2020. And that also means every moment of 2021 will be new, and ripe for the taking and working and doing my Lord's business and bidding, each day, one day at a time, as they are given.
I don't know what 2021 will look like specifically, and I won't make any blanket presumptions that it will be better or worse than 2020. I only know that as 2021 unfolds, it will draw us ever closer to our redemption (Luke 21:28).
As such, I will not make resolutions, per se; but I will simply continue to trust in God, and study His Word, and pray always, for all things; and I will work to equip myself and my brothers and sisters in Christ, in order that we, as His body, may continue to mature and be useful under His complete control, for the preaching of His Gospel, for the saving of souls, and ultimately for the glory of His name and character in our lives, until He returns or He takes me home (which ever comes first).
Astalavista, 2020!
Glory to God, and maranatha in 2021! We welcome your return in in Your perfect timing, Lord Jesus. But if you tarry, we give you our lives just the same!
Amen.
