Remembering And Learning Our Father’s Business As We Walk The Highway Of Holiness
Our brother, Kevin's, most recent last two devotions seemed to be interrelated (to me anyway) and seemed to point to something that I think is vital in our walks "on the highway of holiness" - remembering and learning. One of the most detrimental weapons in Satan's arsenal is to get us to forget, or "not remember", and he does it by throwing other things at us to distract us from the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. That's why this is such a discipline, learning - constant learning. Once distracted, we tend to leave off from learning as we go into "crisis" mode as we struggle to deal with the circumstances in front of us.
I think these devotionals have parallels in that they suggest three things: 1.) Remember the Words of eternal life (the Word of God); 2.) How to remember the Words of eternal life; and 3.) why should we remember the Words of eternal life.
The how is fort of the Deuteronomy passage, and the why is the Luke passage.
We imprint them, bind them, make them your symbol or banner, teach them, talk about them, write them, etc. The idea is make them, not your circumstances, your passion! Not an easy task when loved ones are floundering around us and we feel like we want to fix all the issues in their lives. Or when we have an illness of our own. . .
If you aren't on Kevin's devo list and want to be, leave a comment.
The two devos follow:
DEVO 1: From Deuteronomy 11:
We need to remember and do as the Lord directed Israel in Deuteronomy 11.
Deuteronomy 11:18-20
18 Imprint these words of mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads.
19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
We need to imprint His word in our heart and mind, and talk about them where ever we go. In so doing we will be better suited to Love the Lord with ALL our heart, soul, and mind and strength (Luke 10:27). Whether or not Joshua finished the race and fought the good fight to the end could be debated, let's not have any question or debate about finishing well. It doesn't matter what you have done up to this point; He gave you a new day and a new chance at what we have been given and called to do. Lets press forward to His goal.
DEVO 2: Oswald Chambers from August 7th.
Prayer in the Father’s House
By Oswald Chambers
…they found Him in the temple….And He said to them, "…Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?" —Luke 2:46, 49
Our Lord’s childhood was not immaturity waiting to grow into manhood—His childhood is an eternal fact. Am I a holy, innocent child of God as a result of my identification with my Lord and Savior? Do I look at my life as being in my Father’s house? Is the Son of God living in His Father’s house within me?
The only abiding reality is God Himself, and His order comes to me moment by moment. Am I continually in touch with the reality of God, or do I pray only when things have gone wrong— when there is some disturbance in my life? I must learn to identify myself closely with my Lord in ways of holy fellowship and oneness that some of us have not yet even begun to learn. “…I must be about My Father’s business”— and I must learn to live every moment of my life in my Father’s house.
Think about your own circumstances. Are you so closely identified with the Lord’s life that you are simply a child of God, continually talking to Him and realizing that everything comes from His hands? Is the eternal Child in you living in His Father’s house? Is the grace of His ministering life being worked out through you in your home, your business, and in your circle of friends? Have you been wondering why you are going through certain circumstances? In fact, it is not that you have to go through them. It is because of your relationship with the Son of God who comes, through the providential will of His Father, into your life. You must allow Him to have His way with you, staying in perfect oneness with Him.
The life of your Lord is to become your vital, simple life, and the way He worked and lived among people while here on earth must be the way He works and lives in you.
