This Saturday, we'll finish up this introductory Chapter. We'll be getting straight to the questions, and will begin our study fairly promptly, so please try to be on time.
The following is our assignment (much is the same as last time, so hopefully it will be review):
1.) Review Chapter 1 in the Wiersbe book, "A Church Is Born", Pages 19-27 (or read it if you haven't already done so).
2.) Read ALL of 1 & 2 Thessalonians.
- Read each letter all at once, as if they were written directly to you, in urgency (which is actually true).
- Even if you've already read it, read it again, and again even. This is important! Don't underestimate what God will do in us, if we're willing to devote ourselves to hearing Him through His Word. Even if we don't understand everything about the text, knowing what it says will enable the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning in His timing, and as we need it.
- See John 14:26: But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
3.) Review your answers to the questions that Wiersbe asks at the end of the chapter, Pages 28-29. We will cover questions 4-7 and the additional ones below:
Question 8:
- According to Wiersbe, what are three (3) lessons we can learn from the background of Paul's interactions with the Church at Thessalonica?
- What other lessons has the Lord put on your heart and mind?
- According to Wiersbe, what the three (3) major purposes for Paul writing these letters to the Church at Thessalonica?
- How are these purposes applicable to the Church today?
- How are they applicable to our local fellowship today?
- Don't be alarmed if you find more than three purposes.
- This could be answered personally or as a general principle, as it applies to our whole local Body or to any individual.
4.) For question 6, go through the entire 1 & 2 Thessalonians letters and try to pick out some of the specific verses that talk about how to live while we wait for Christ's return, and think about how that thing can be applied to your life today.
- This is important - we might spend the majority of time on this one.
