I wanted to post a separate update for our continuing review of Daniel because it seems like the Daniel study and review has been continuing for some time, maybe longer than some of us expected (myself included).
However, I have to freely admit that the time I've been able to spend with my brothers in Christ discussing and praying about these characteristics has been extremely beneficial to me. I have been amazingly blessed and I hope the guys who have been coming out have been too.
So where are we in our "review" of Daniel?
This is where we are:
We've studied the Weirsbe book "Be Resolute". And now we're reviewing through many of the characteristics found in the updated file I'm going to upload here. These are many of the characteristics that I see in Daniel, and which I desire to have in my life.
The list is:
We've looked together through the items in RED above. So we have the last four characteristics to cover before we can say that we thoroughly studied the life of Daniel.
Also, part of that thoroughness is learning how to apply those characteristics to our lives in a fallen world that degrades men and fathers and the like.
So that's where we are. I honestly don't see us moving from these items for the next few sessions, which will bring us to the beginning of the new year. Around that time, we're going to start a new book study, "The Calvary Road" by Roy Hession (if the LORD wills). Pastor Mark is ordering a bunch of books for us.
I sometimes get keyed up, I'll admit, when I think about whether or not we're moving fast enough, but the Lord seems to remind me that it's not my timing, and that I am not the one who defines the timing of how "fast" of "slow" we advance through some book study. It's more about whether or not we're growing more and more fitly joined together into one Body, in one Spirit, in one hope, to which we are called, one faith, one baptism, in one Father and God of all! All the while applying these characteristics (which ultimately lead to Christ-likeness) as we lead our families in the same way - teaching and exemplifying a Daniel-like man, for our wives and children and neighbors to see.
There is much do, my fellow soldiers in Christ! Don't give up now. Don't let up! Stand and choose to be sober minded; choose to be awake in the night watches of this dark age! Choose to be a Daniel!
Men of God, keep following Jesus Christ!
